Samuel Woodford Aylestock

Samuel Woodford Aylestock, age 96, of Reger Street, Buckhannon, died Friday, July 1, 2016, at Holbrook Nursing Home in Buckhannon. He was born on May 10, 1920, in Sago, WV, a son of the late Parley Samuel and Nola Gould Aylestock. On July 31, 1961, he was united in marriage to Nina Estella Wolfe Aylestock who survives. Also surviving are two daughters: Ginger and husband Greg Wickenhofer of Wheeling and Linda and husband Jeff Mlsna of Wisconsin; two sons: Samuel W. Aylestock, II and wife Christy of Woodbridge, VA and Steve Ross Aylestock and wife Karen of Great Falls, VA; twelve grandchildren: Richard and Heidi Stanley, Brandon and wife Hannah Aylestock, Megan Aylestock, Pat Lewis, Jennifer Sagler, Kristin Mlsna, Chris and Jennifer Somers, Matthew and Peter Aylestock, and Claire Carter; several great grandchildren; one sister Ann and husband Dave Young of Winchester, VA; one brother Harold Joe Aylestock of Berryville, VA; two sisters-in-law: Judith Aylestock of Charlotte, NC and Winona Aylestock of Sterling, VA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twelve siblings: Mabel, Carl, Phyllis, Lloyd, Hartsel, Russell, Edwin, Lavaun, Natalie, Willard, Glen, and Tom. Mr. Aylestock was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having participated in D-Day and the subsequent Allied invasion of Normandy. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, the Gideon’s, and the VFW, and he owned and operated his own excavating company in Upshur County for many years. He enjoyed woodworking and loved the community of Sago. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, from 5-8:00 PM, at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral chapel, with Pastor Michael Tallman and the Rev. Wease Day officiating. Interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery, where the Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors.
