Ray E. Hefner, age 91, of French Creek, died Friday, June 16, 2017, at the Crestview Nursing Home in Jane Lew. He was born in Upshur County on April 23, 1926, a son of the late Charles Patterson and Lola Ellen Ervin Hefner. He is survived by his wife, Marguerite Curry Hefner. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter Nancy F. Hefner and friend Joe Payne of Buckhannon; one sister-in-law Roberta Hefner of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Kenneth and Scott Hefner and one sister Emma Hefner. Ray was an avid hunter and fisherman, who loved to hunt and fish with his daughter Nancy. He was retired from the WV DNR where he worked as a state trapper. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served as a medic in the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal. He was a charter member of the Central Upshur Lions Club and a member of the French Creek United Methodist Church where he served as a trustee. Friends will be received at the Heavner and Cutright Funeral Chapel on Monday, June 19, 2017, from 4-7:00 PM Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel with Rev. Robert Heavner and Rev. Nancy Killingsworth officiating. Interment will follow in the Center Chapel Cemetery. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the graveside.
