Kay Thacker Winebrenner, 83 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Mercy Regional Center in Lorain, following a full and meaningful life She was born at home in French Creek, West Virginia to Edgar D. and Roberta Thacker (nee: Young). She graduated from Buckhannon-Upshur High School with the class of 1953. Kay continued her education at West Virginia Wesleyan College, graduating in 1957, with a degree in elementary education and Bible studies. While in college Kay taught piano and was a member of the Queen's court of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival. She came to Ohio after graduating and taught for many years in the Lorain school system, including Garfield and McKinley Schools. She married Francis W. Winebrenner on August 27, 1960, and together they had four children and adopted two more. Kay was a very active member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church since 1962. She had a deep and abiding faith and knew God was LOVE. Kay served as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, certified Lay speaker and at one time or another served on every committee of the church and was a fifty year member of the United Methodist Women's group. Within the community she was a Cub Scout den leader, Brownie leader, and a 4-H adviser. Kay was an active member of the TOPS group #1105, of Amherst. Kay had been a vendor at Jamie's Flea Market since 1978, selling collectibles in her booth. She enjoyed spending time working crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was an avid bird watcher and was a exhibitor at the Lorain County Fair. Most of all Kay loved spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her daughters Roberta Thome and Angela Barnes; her sons Neale, Gene and Gary; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter Valerie Davoli; her husband Francis; her granddaughter Nicole Winebrenner; her brother Neale Thacker and her parents E.D. and Roberta Thacker.
