John Franklin Phillips

John Franklin Phillips, our beloved husband, father, brother, friend and neighbor departed this life Thursday, April 3, 2008 at his home in French Creek under the care of loving members of his family and St. Joseph’s Hospice. John was a coal miner, electrician and a Christian by faith. He served his country in the Armed forces during World War II. John loved people, he was a good neighbor to all he came in contact with. He was born January 19, 1928, to the late Arnold Loudin and Letha Howes Phillips of Gould. Also preceding him in death, his oldest son John Wayne and wife Eileen and his grandson, Matthew, his two brothers Arnold Dale and Dwight Lynn Phillips, three sisters Mary Lou Ware, Betty Sue Harris, Patty Joann Davis. He is survived by his wife Wilma Jean of fifty-nine years of marriage, two sons, Robert D. (Lisa) Phillips of Buckhannon, Steven B. (Carolyn) Phillips of French Creek; three daughters, Gloria A. (Rev. David) Fisher of Clarksburg, Debra S. (Frank) Ryan of French Creek, Pamela D. (Arnold) Hawkins of Buckhannon. His legacies are twelve grandchildren, Alex (Alice) Phillips, Robin Phillips, Jamie Phillips, Chris (Angel) Phillips, Benjamin (Marshia) Phillips, Lori (Faisal) Fisher, Scott (Ruth) Ryan, William (Tish) Ryan, Crystal (Chris) Wilson, Andrew, Jon Michael, Stephanie Hawkins. Five step grandchildren, Mitch, Jared Stocking, Jeff, Scott, Josh Winemiller and twelve great grandchildren of whom he was so proud of. His surviving family, Charles (Paula) Phillips of Aliquippa, PA, Howard (Rose) Phillips of Sewickley, PA, Linda Lester of Baden, PA and Martha (Clyde) Reed of Tallmansville, WV; two brother-in-laws, Bob Harris of AZ., Richard (Dick) Davis of Buckhannon, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and neighbors. Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 4, 2008, from 4-9PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at 11:00 AM, at the funeral chapel. Interment will follow in the Buckhannon Memorial Park. The Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7 American Legion and the DAV Chapters #5 and #36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.
