Jackie Lee Canter

Jackie Lee Canter, age 75 of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at his home, under the care of St. Joseph Hospice. He was born February 17, 1933, in Webster County, a son of the late Denny and Elizabeth Riffle Canter. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Jean Carlyle Canter, four sisters, six brothers and one stepson. He is survived by his wife Maxine M. Lee Farrar Canter, whom he married, October 3, 1998. Also surviving are one son; Dennis Canter of Buckhannon, three daughters; Cheryl Winans of Volga, Bonnie Bennett and Joyce Ball both of Buckhannon; three stepdaughters, Carol Jean White of Mannington, WV and Sandra Kay Bowman and Sherry Waybright both of Buckhannon; two brothers, Roger “Doc” Canter and Dale Gay Canter both of Buckhannon; four sisters, Jean Claypool, Josephine Fitzgerald, Betty Bowman and Trecia Lowther all of Buckhannon; ten grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Jack was a veteran of the US Army, serving in the Korean War. He was a former member of the Warren District VFD. He had formerly been employed by Benson’s Trucking and Hodgesville Trucking. He was retired from Reidboard Sewing Factory after thirty-five years of service as a machine mechanic. Jack also enjoyed woodworking. Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Friday from 3-8 PM. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 12:00 Noon, at the funeral chapel with Rev. David Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery.
