Freda G. McCartney Curtis Tolliver, age 95, formerly of Crawford, passed away on March 26, 2021, at Serenity Care Home in Buckhannon. She was born at Ingo, WV, on October 11, 1925, a daughter of the late Sarah McCartney Bender. She was raised near Cleveland, WV by her mother and step-father, the late Lonnie H. Bender. She first married Burl W. Curtis in 1943. After his passing in 1962, she married Herbert H. Tolliver. Herbert died on October 9, 2018. Freda is survived by two daughters from her first marriage: Phyllis Curtis Hall McCartney and her husband Raymond of French Creek and Patricia Curtis of Crawford, WV. She is also survived by four grandsons: Michael Hall and wife Tina of Webster Springs, Randy Hall and wife Donna of Walkersville, Steve Hall of Walkersville, and Kenny Hall and wife Beckey of French Creek; seven great grandchildren: Courtney Hall of Buckhannon, Jared Hall of Martinsburg, Christopher Hall and wife Alexis of Walkersville, Aaron Hall and wife Candi of Rio, WV, Hannah (Hall) and husband Jacob Eastman of Huntington, WV, Rachael Hall of Tennessee, and Ashley (Hall) and husband Justin Stanton of Buckhannon; four great-great grandchildren: Aiden Michael Hall of Buckhannon, Cole Franklynn Hall and Emarie Kay Hall of Walkersville, and Eva Lynne Stanton of Buckhannon; four step-grandchildren: Dwayne McCartney and wife Barbara, Ray McCartney, and Kathy and husband Jeff Page, all of French Creek, and Rebecca Adams of Buckhannon; six step great grandchildren; and eight step great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are her three sisters: Reta Dobbins (Freda’s twin) of Morgantown, Vonda “Sue” Strincosky of Fairmont, and Mary and husband Johnny Johnston of French Creek; one brother Maynard Leo Bender and wife Juanita of North Ridgeville, OH; several nieces and nephews; and two sisters-in-law: Jean Bender of Webster County and Tressie Bender of Glenville. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was also preceded in death by four brothers: Theodore, Leonard, Arden, and Lonnie “Budd” Bender; a son-in-law Franklin Hall; and nieces and nephews. Freda was a member of the Straight Fork Methodist Church and the Straight Fork CEOS Club. Private graveside services and interment were held at the Wimer Cemetery at Straight Fork.
