Roy Lee Warner, age 80, of Buckhannon, WV, departed this life on May 28, 2010, in Louis A Johnson Veteran's Hospital of Clarksburg following a brief illness.  He was born April 19, 1930, son of the late Aubrey J. and Lura (Shepherd) Warner.  On October 28, 1957, he married his beloved wife of 52 years, Shirley (Wamsley) Warner, who survives.  He is also survived by three daughters, Sabrinna and husband, Michael Wiley, June Cvechko, and Susan and husband, Randy Cunningham of Buckhannon.  He was the loving grandfather of Jessica Connell Grose, Kara Cvechko Parsons, April Cunningham, Kristy Cvechko, Wesley Cunningham, Kristen Wiley, Caitlin Wiley, Matthew Cunningham, and Lauren Cvechko and great-grandfather of Madison, Mackenzie and Robert Grose and Natalie Parsons; one sister, Ida May Shultz of Greenwich, OH.  Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Audra May Dowell, nephew Terry Shultz and great-niece Rhonda Shipley.

 

Roy graduated from Buckhannon Upshur High School in 1950 where he was named to the North-South Football Team and also played baseball.  He served in the U.S. Marine Corp for two years.

 

Roy spent many years of his life serving the public as an oil, gas, and water well driller.  He was an avid rifleman and farmer.  In retirement, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending many hours enjoying his beautiful farm.

 

Roy was a Christian by faith and attended the Buckhannon Christian Missionary Alliance Church.

 

Friends will be received at the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 3-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 2, 2010 at 11 a.m. at  the Buckhannon Christian Missionary Alliance Church with Reverend Mark Thomas officiating.  Interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. The Buckhannon VFW Post #3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post #7, American Legion and DAV Chapters 5 and 36 will conduct military honors at the graveside.   In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Buckhannon Christian Missionary Alliance Church Youth Group in memory of Roy, care of Carolyn Patterson, RR 2 Box 67, Buckhannon, WV  26201.
